Throughout the series[]

Season 3[]

Billy arrives at the Cody house in season three, episode four. He is with his girlfriend, Frankie, after learning that Smurf was taking jail time. He figures that now would be a good time to get to know his son, Deran, because Smurf can not push him away. Deran has never met his father and is not sure if he can trust him. At first, Deran seems uncomfortable and annoyed around Billy, but he starts building trust as they continue to bond.

Pope is the only one of the Cody boys who is old enough to remember Billy from the past. He is angry that Billy showed up, and questions if he is on the run from the police. He orders Craig to kick him out of the house. Craig is unmotivated, so when Pope sees Billy resting by the pool later on, he is very unhappy. Smurf also wants Billy to leave, as she is upset when J notifies her about it. She tells J to make sure he stays away and not to let him get inside Deran's head. However, J fails to go through with the request.

Billy proposes a "job" to Deran worth 60-80 thousand dollars in cash. Deran is open to the idea because Billy wants him to take the lead and for the other Cody boys to follow. Everyone agrees to go through with the plan, but Pope still has many negative feelings towards Billy.

During the robbery, Craig, Pope, and Billy end up having to drive 48 miles to pick up J and Deran because they missed the point where they had planned to jump out of an airplane. As they are driving, Billy embarrasses Pope and ends up getting himself thrown onto the side of the road. Craig tells Pope that Deran is going to be angry about what he did to Billy, but Pope would rather have that happen than having to deal with Billy any longer.

After everyone gets back to Oceanside, Billy is thrilled to hear that they robbed enough money for everyone to have $100,000 each. However, he is worried that Deran and his brothers are going to screw him over because they are not handing it out all at once. He tells Deran that he needs the whole 100K immediately so he can buy his own home. Deran tells him that J has the money so he cannot give it to him even if he wanted to. Billy ends up stealing all the money from Deran's safe at the bar and ditching as if he was never there.

Season 4[]

In the season finale, Billy makes a return because Smurf is now deceased. He gives Deran some of the money he "borrowed" and claims that he will give him the rest within two weeks or less. It is clear Billy wants to rekindle their relationships and tells his son that he is trying to get sober. However, Deran shows no interest in bonding with him and makes him go away. There is no evidence to suggest that Billy ever came back with more money.

At Smurf's memorial, Pope could not be more disappointed to see Billy. He says that if he does not leave in 10 seconds he will shoot him. He is surprised to hear that Billy is there because he wants to apologize for the way he treated him back when he was a child. Billy explains that the reason he treated him so poorly was because he was jealous that Smurf "worshipped the ground [he] walked on," which only confuses Pope. The scene ends with Billy letting Deran's secret out about how he is moving away.

Season 6[]

In season six, Deran, Craig, and J want to find a way to break Pope out of jail. Because Billy spent time as an inmate in the same place as Pope, Deran asks him for help. For 5K, he wants him to use his resources to get a hold of blueprints and any other files that would help him break inside. Billy does not know what Deran is planning to do with all the information, so he agrees to the task. However, when he learns that Pope has been put behind bars and that they are going to break him out, Billy strongly advises against it. He believes that Pope needs to take the punishment and that breaking him out would be extremely dangerous. It is obvious Deran does not care what he thinks, and once he gives him the money to exchange for the information, Billy continues trying to talk him out of it. He invites Deran to move in with him and the two of them can run robberies together elsewhere. Deran only doubles his payments which makes Billy cave and he hands over the information.
