Throughout The Series[]
Season 1[]
In the first season, Pope gets out of prison and hangs around Cath a lot, which scares her. Due to this, she talks to a police officer named Patrick Fischer that is often at her place of work. He introduces her to Detective Sandra Yates, who wants her to snitch on the Cody family, but she refuses.
Janine "Smurf" Cody finds out through Lena that the police had been talking to Cath. She also discovers that Cath stole money from her. She manipulates Pope, and hints that he needs to kill Cath. When he goes to her house, he sees that she packed suitcases for herself and Lena. Cath tells him that the packed bags are for if she is in a situation where she has to leave town at the last minute. In an attempt to protect herself, Cath has sex with Pope. He smothers her with a pillow and buries her body in the desert along with her bags.
The next day, Baz tries to get information out of Lena about what happened to Cath, but she struggles to remember. She recalls a man being present, but she cannot make out his identity. Baz thinks that Pope's former cellmate, Vin, did something to her, and severely torchers him.
Season 2[]
Pope and Smurf keep quiet about what happened to Cath. Baz is working with a private investor to find out the truth, but they are unsuccessful. Upon learning that there is no evidence of Cath anywhere since her bank account has not made any transactions or deposits, Officer Fischer is convinced that Baz must have killed her. When Baz gets confronted about it, he becomes certain that Cath is dead.
In this season Pope is struggling with severe regret because he murdered Cath. He gets really upset when he learns that had she refused to be a mole. Additionally, he often tells his girlfriend, Amy, that he "hurt somebody" but does not provide any further details. The couple breaks up when he decides to tell her more about what happened.
Baz witnesses the murder of a man named Javier Cano, who was killed by a hitman Smurf hired. Baz realizes what Smurf is capable of, and he now believes that she is the one to blame for Cath's disappearance and death. When he confronts her about it, she hints at him that Pope is responsible for it. When Pope finds out that Baz knows about how he murdered Cath, he prepares to get killed by Baz. To his surprise, Baz forgives him, likely because he knows how Pope loved Cath and he understands how manipulative Smurf can be.
